Vendée mussels: a tradition between sea and land

The star of summer on the Vendée coast, bouchot mussels are carefully farmed along the Atlantic coast. Delicate, tasty and full of the flavour of the sea, they can be enjoyed simply at markets, in restaurants or at the famous local mouclades.
In the Vendée, mussel farming is an ancient activity, particularly in the bays of L'Aiguillon and Bourgneuf. The mussels are cultivated on wooden stakes — known as bouchots — using rigorous techniques that guarantee their quality.
Rich in flavour and tradition, Vendée mussels can be enjoyed à la marinière, in a curry or simply with chips. A real summer treat, to be savoured with your feet in the sand, facing the ocean.
