Amazing discoveries in La Palmyre’s zoo

Amazing discoveries in La Palmyre’s zoo

zoo de la Palmyre

In the heart of the Mathes forest, among holm oaks and maritime pines, La Palmyre Zoo invites you on an unforgettable family outing, just a stone's throw from the beaches of the Côte de Beauté. Created in 1966 and now one of Europe's most renowned zoos, it covers 18 hectares of landscaped gardens where more than 1,600 animals from five continents live in an environment designed for their well-being.

As soon as you enter, you are greeted by pink flamingos, before discovering a wonderful diversity of animals: lemurs from Madagascar, pandas from Nepal, Asian elephants, gorillas from Gabon, crocodiles, iguanas, golden lion tamarins from Brazil and more.

Each species is accompanied by educational explanations, allowing young and old alike to learn more about their way of life, their habitat and the challenges of their conservation.

Perfectly suited to families, the zoo offers a 4 km trail punctuated by sea lion and parrot shows, as well as a vast 3-hectare complex for great apes. You may even witness births, made possible by the attentive care given to the animals and the park's commitment to the preservation of endangered species.

From the campsites in Royan, Vaux-sur-Mer, Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, Meschers and Ronce-les-Bains, the zoo is easily accessible, particularly via a network of cycle paths through forests and along the coast. A true haven of peace for a day full of discoveries and emotions, in a place where respect for nature and enjoyment go hand in hand.

Many campsites in the Vendée allow you to enjoy the Atlantic coast while being close to the legendary La Palmyre Zoo.
