Waves of water fun
More than just a campsite, La Plaine Tonique is also an outdoor leisure centre. The bathing area has 5 pools of naturally warm water, in addition to the natural lake. You'll find two pools with giant slides as well as a leisure centre, a fun paddling pool and a sauna for your well-being. A swimming pool with a removable roof will provide the perfect introduction to aquagym.
On the lakes of Montrevel, board a catamaran, canoe or pedal boat before taking a rest on the beaches. You can also enjoy a spot of fishing or discover the joys of water skiing.
A wide range of sports
There's a range of other activities at La Plaine Tonique, like archery, racket sports and horse-riding, with its own horse farm. For nature-lovers, there are special cycle paths departing from the campsite.
Drop the children off at the play areas at the children's mini-club. They're sure to love the go-karts and adventure park! Meanwhile, you can work on your swing at the Golf de la Commanderie golf course, or relax under the palm trees.
When it comes to eating, the Brasserie du Lac will make you very welcome in its renovated restaurant serving local specialities. At night, you'll find a programme of theme nights, concerts and karaoke. Unless you prefer to explore Bourg-en-Bresse and its charming surrounding villages!
Fabulous Bresse farms
When you choose to spend a holiday at La Plaine Tonique campsite, you stay deep in leafy Bresse with heritage and good food galore. Foodie go weak for Bresse poultry with the PDO designation. Come and buy it at "home" at Miéral in Montrevel-en-Bresse. Vast Bresse farms are famous for their signature half-timbering and chimneys. Next door to the campsite, Le Sougey farm dates back to 1460 making it the oldest in Bresse. To get a better understanding of 18th century farm life, visit Bresse Museum-Domaine Les Planons in Saint-Cyr-sur-Menthon.
Brou Royal Monastery
The flamboyant Gothic-style Brou Royal Monastery (16th century) is laid out around a church and three cloisters: it's Bourg-en-Bresse's best-known landmark. Venture south to Villars-les-Dombes to visit the Bird Park: a family outing. Keep your eyes peeled for 300 species, including some very rare and endangered birds, at the 35ha park. Get a change of scene in Labalme and its Cerdon caves. Delve into the caverns and underground river. The site has a prehistory theme park with workshops where you can learn how to make a fire without matches for example.
Pérouges, most beautiful village in France
Pérouges, a former weaving town, has held onto its medieval past within its double city walls: old houses, cobbled lanes, church fortress. It is in the exclusive circle of the Most Beautiful Villages in France.
