Treat yourself and recharge your batteries in Charente-Maritime at the 4* L’Océan campsite in La Couarde-sur-mer. Soak up your holiday on the Île de Ré, just 50m from the beach.

Original pitches and accommodation

L’Océan campsite captures the Île de Ré's magic for you. Whether you like classic camping or a little bit of luxury, this is your home from home!  Set up your tent, caravan or motorhome and choose from our four categories of pitch. Privilège pitches even have a hut with a water and electricity supply including fixtures like a fridge and gas barbecue. Are you looking for a rental? Eden Villages l’Océan & Spa Campsite has a wide variety of comfortable mobile homes with 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms sleeping up to 10 guests. Why not stay in a Tiny-Home for your holiday? This unique rental is halfway between a maisonette and mobile home with a first floor bedroom. There are also furnished Sahari tents.

Dips in the sea and aquatic park

The campsite has everything a water baby could wish for. With the beach 50m away, the aquatic park and its two heated pools, there's something for everyone throughout your stay. There won't be enough time in the day! The activity schedule for children and adults is action-packed. There's a multi-sports and pétanque pitch for guests to use. Fitness fans are spoilt for choice: aquafun, stretching, step and zumba for example. Spend quality time together in the evening with cabarets, hypnosis, pranks and more. If you need some me-time and a bit of R&R then head to the Océan Spa: hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, treatments and massages.

Île de Ré attractions

Cycle from the campsite to uncover the Ile de Ré's gems such as the Phare des Baleines lighthouse, Vauban fortifications in Saint-Martin-de-Ré and Les Châteliers Abbey. If you prefer being in the great outdoors then make a beeline for the Lilleau des Niges Nature Reserve or Salt Marsh Ecomuseum. Set time aside to explore Trousse-Chemise Forest too.

The Saint-Martin ramparts and Phare des Baleines

The Ile de Ré used to be where convicts left for exile to overseas territories. The island is brimming with history that you can experience at must-visit sites such as the UNESCO World Heritage ramparts of Saint-Martin de Ré built by Vauban during the reign of Louis XIV and the Phare des Baleines lighthouse. We recommend watching hundreds of bird species at the Lilleau des Niges nature reserve or visiting the Magayant open-air museum.

La Rochelle and Fort-Boyard

If you stay on Ile de Ré, you simply must visit La Rochelle. The city is an architectural gem with its port and three towers (Saint-Nicolas, La Chaîne and La Lanterne Towers) dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. La Rochelle aquarium is one of the best in France and is a must-visit. Whilst in the administrative centre of Charente-Maritime, you can take a boat trip to visit the other local islands of Ile d’Oléron and Ile d’Aix. Get up close and personal with Fort Boyard, a former prison in the middle of the sea built in 1857 made famous by the French TV show of the same name.

If you fancy venturing further into the region, you could visit Rochefort and the Hermione ship construction, Marennes to try delicious oysters or even Royan and Palmyre Zoo, the biggest wildlife park in France.
